This new MCT oil formula from Lifematrix is made exclusively from coconuts. This is a fat-burning, brain-boosting powerhouse that’s loaded with caprylic and capric fatty acids. A great palm oil-free alternative to the original MCT formula.

How it works: Medium Chain Triglycerides are rapidly absorbed by the body and metabolised in the liver; they don’t go through the normal digestive process, which means they are not stored in the body’s fat cells

Suggested use: Take 1-3tsp of oil with food.

MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides, which comprise primarily caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) fatty acids that occur naturally in coconut and palm kernel oils. The oil is clear, odourless and pleasant-tasting. MCTs have increased in popularity in tandem with the growth of low-carb, high fat diets (ketogenic/Banting) because they provide energy without the need for sugars/insulin. They are also used as a natural performance enhancer by athletes, bodybuilders as well as for weight loss. Anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial MCT oil can rid the gut of bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites. It has been shown to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and epilepsy. It is also used in the treatment of obesity, Alzheimer’s, seizures, fat malabsorption and cystic fibrosis. MCTs are great for sports people as they are anti-inflammatory in addition to providing instant and sustainable energy. Metabolised in the liver, MCTs do not go through the normal digestive process; they get utilised immediately by the body and are not stored in the fat cells. As an aid in weight loss, MCTs have been shown to improve metabolism and thyroid function as well as increase the number of calories burnt (thermogenic effect) from a meal. Diabetics can also benefit from including MCT oil in their diets as it improves blood sugar regulation.
